Al-anon meetings can help those whose families are struggling with addiction.

    in Health

Al-anon is a program to help families struggling with addiction to learn how to love the addict but to hate their addiction. To support the addict but to avoid enabling their addiction in anyway. On today's program we will describe what Al-anon is and why going to meetings can be so helpful.
At Al-Anon Family Group meetings, the friends and family members of problem drinkers or drug users share their experiences and learn how to apply the principles of the Al-Anon program to their individual situations. Younger family members and friends attend Alteen meetings. They learn that they are not alone in the problems they face, and that they have choices that lead to greater peace of mind, whether the addict/drinker continues to use/drink or not.

Reconnecting People Living With Aphasia: Voices of Hope an Innovative Program

    in Health

Aphasia impairs a person's ability to process language, and/or their ability to speak and understand others, but does not affect intelligence.
As a result of their difficulty communicating, people with aphasia may experience great isolation and frustration in their daily lives, which is often made worse by the lack of information that they receive about their condition, and the majority leave the health care system without referrals to resources in their own communities.
Voices of Hope for Aphasia, is a community based program that was the brainchild of a patient and his wife, and it was designed to provide the communication bridges that will help people with aphasia do the things that are most important to them, and take part in their own life. Voices of Hope for Aphasia reconnects people, living with aphasia, with their lives through innovative programs.
Guests: Jackie Hinckley, PhD, Executive Director, Voices of Hope for Aphasia, and Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of South Florida, has over 25 years of experience directing clinical and research programs that specialize in the treatment of aphasia and related neurologic communication disorders. Dr. Audrey Holland, Professor Emeritus of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona. Dr. Holland and has published over 125 research articles, textbooks and clinical tools including: Counseling in Communication Disorders: A Wellness Perspective
If you are someone living with, or loving someone with aphasia, or, if you are a professional working with people with aphasia, please join the podcast with your questions for my guest.

The Rehab & Recovery Chronicles 3

    in Caregiving

It's time. It's time to look at ourselves in the mirror and really have a deep conversation with ourselves. Is what we're doing with our addictions keeping us alive? It's 'in our face' loudly that many people out there using conventional methods geared towards addiction or recovery are completely LOST. The program(s) they are using or have used are just not working - not to their satisfaction anyway.
This is not to blame the systems in place - they have in fact helped millions of people... but what about the ones that it hasn't helped? Are you one of those people? We have realized that there is a loud demand for a new system to be in place, a system with radical new ways of doing things for the lives of those that heavily favor unconventional methods. Programs that can foster the health, happiness, longevity and self-reliance of responsible behavior in individuals, which will help them recover from addiction(s) and become the person they truly desire to be. Is this YOU?
If you feel that the methods or programs you have been participating in are not working or simply 'keeping you in the system', Recovery 360 Radio is worth your time to listen in. We feel that each individual that is going through addiction or recovery cannot be treated with a boilerplate system; they must be given tools based upon individuality.
The tools we wish to introduce to the listener are ones of BALANCE, for it is BALANCE that will give you the platform to overcome the temptations you have been faced with. When the body is in harmony, it can then function at an optimal level. This harmony only comes from the three aspects of our lives - Brain, Body and Soul. Each one is a component - focusing on them is essential for addiction or recovery.
This is the movement you have been looking for.
