Rachel Boynton was inspired to open this conversation about equality, civil rights, and rebel pride after an incident in 2016 where a known "rebel pride" white man entered a black church and opened fire. She wondered why there is such a disparity in how slavery and the events surrounding the civil war are remembered. She proceeded to talk to people about this, including students from elementary school to college age as well as adults and what she found is shocking. The education we received as children and the education our children are getting is missing many key elements.

"Civil War:Or who do we think we are?" airs tonight on MSNBC at 10pm EST Directed by Boynton and produced by Brad Pitt and Henry Louis Gates Jr.
