The WV Democratic Primary - What Just Happened? (Replay)

    in Politics Progressive

In the first half-hour, Natalie Ferdinand Twigger comes to us as a hard-line Hillary supporter from Ranson, WV. She has some strong opinions on the election and on Hillary Clinton. Here are her words:
"The reason why like Hillary is that for many years she has fought for women's rights, Children's Rights, Civil Rights and LGBT Rights. I've wanted Hillary for so many reasons: because she is a fighter; she is a champion; she is a great person; she fights for everyone. She has so much compassion for everyone - not just for Democrats but also for Rep's and Ind's - for everyone, including illegal immigrants and I know that she is very qualified in Foreign Policy. We have got to get her in the White House. I also can't say enough about how much she does for gun violence and gun control. It means so much to me how much she does for that and talks about it and represents gun control. Republicans are very mistaken to think that we Democrats have have it in our minds to take away their guns. No! She just wants to get rid of the loopholes."
Our second half brings us to Charlotte Pritt. Charlotte is an educator, businesswoman, and politician in the U.S. state of West Virginia. From 1984 to 1988, she served in the West Virginia House of Delegates. From 1988 to 1996, she served in the West Virginia State Senate. In 1996, she ran as a Democrat for governor and lost narrowly, but made history as the first woman to secure the West Virginia gubernatorial nomination of either of the two major political parties. From 2012 to 2014, she was Chairwoman of the Mountain Party which is the West Virginia Green Party affiliate. Today, she is the president of Better Balance, a West Virginia-based educational and wellness consulting firm.

Detroit Public Schools Closures Links Right Back to Devos & Others

    in Politics Progressive

With Besty Devos now being confirmed as the nation's new Secretary of Education it is important to know not just what she stands for but how she is literally putting her money where her mouth is as far as "reforming" public education. If you don't know Devos is from the state of Michigan home to one of the worst performing schools in the nation: Detroit Public Schools. This is to shed light on the astrocities of corruption on not just Devos but all parties involved (including the Obama administration) to give public school students, teacher, and parents the short end of the stick while pretending to solve a mess that they have allowed to transpire. Is education a right to these people or is it just a means to weed out future criminals for profit?

    What Now?

    in Politics Progressive

The most positive result from the 2016 Presidential election is that the newly elected President is decidedly a racist and has the Electoral College’s consent—a significant number of Americans that agree with him. Annnnnd? Is this news to any of us? Not to me. Thank you, Mr. Trump (and your supporters) for clinching my argument on this issue: America's racist roots are still alive and perhaps thriving. So, why am I bothering to invite us to the kitchen table to talk about changing it? My answer: Hope. How can I hope? The protests from White America days later.

7 Arrested Black Lives Matter Protesters Police Clash Stockton, Ca

    in Politics Progressive

STOCKTON — Black Lives Matter protesters who have routinely blocked some of Stockton’s busiest streets were met with a much different police response Wednesday evening in their first demonstration since a woman and her teenage daughters were attacked during a march last month.
Dozens of officers dressed in riot gear formed skirmish lines and brandished batons to prevent protesters from marching in the streets near Weberstown Mall. Several people were arrested and at least three were forcibly taken to the ground when demonstrators clashed with officers at West March Lane and Claremont Avenue.
“We knew they were training and I knew they’d be out here in riot gear,” said Aaron Paradiso, one of the Stockton Police Department’s most vocal critics. “Sometimes this kind of thing happens when you’re out here fighting for your rights. You have to be willing to be arrested sometimes.”
The demonstration started at nearby Weberstown Park with a peaceful birthday celebration for Colby Friday, 30, who was fatally shot by Stockton police Officer David Wells on Aug. 16 behind the Jamestown Plaza shopping center. Organizers served roasted pig and cupcakes.
The crowd eventually dispersed, but Dionne Smith-Downs, whose 16-year-old son James Rivera Jr. was fatally shot by Stockton police in 2010, vowed they would be back.
“I’m mad now,” she screamed. “I’m mad
