"A Deadly Silence: Black Men and Boys" Guest Dr. Tommy J. Curry Texas A&M University, Professor of Philosophy, Black Studies and Critical Race Theory; author, “The Man Not”
Most Black men and boys have not been trained to talk about gender in ways that articulate men’s historical experiences with accuracy–outside of investments in traditional patriarchal tropes, and consequently they are often not able to participate in discussions on Black gender matters. But what of their population in prison, school failure and the unemployment stats? Are we leaving them behind and have we diminished or snuffed out the voice of Black men and boys? Who speaks for our Fathers, Sons, Brothers, Uncles and Nephews?
We are so pleased to have Dr. Curry join us again.

Join us this week with our special guest Ambrosia Starling. Ambrosia has helped to free our state of the oppressive and backwards thinking of Alabama's notorious supreme court chief justice, Roy Moore. After Ambrosia filed a complaint against Moore the state’s disciplinary board for judges removed Moore from power on May 7, charging he had “flagrantly disregarded and abused his authority” and “abandoned his role” as chief justice. We as a State can not thank her enough. Make plans to be with us on June the 5th at 2 pm for our visit with Ambrosia. We will also have progressive news you can use, and the most important thing - You.

Brandon Johnson began his career in teaching as a middle school Social Studies and Reading teacher at Jenner Academy in Cabrini-Green. He has also taught Social Studies at Westinghouse High School.
Teaching in the Chicago Public School system, Brandon has witnessed firsthand the struggles that poor Black and Brown students face on a daily basis and how teachers and school staff were getting burned out by these circumstances. Challenged by this reality, Brandon joined the Chicago Teachers Union’s (CTU) organizing department, taking on corporate interests and powerful forces that oppose publicly funded neighborhood schools and the rights of workers. Brandon currently serves as the Deputy Political Director for the CTU, were he organizes community members and CTU members to demand progressive representation and researched based legislation at the city and state levels. He continues to organize protests alongside teachers, students, and communities across Chicago to demand that all children get a quality education regardless of their race or economic background. He led the effort that resurrected the Black Caucus of the CTU and resides on the Westside of Chicago with his wife Stacie, two sons Owen and Ethan and daughter Braedyn.

News Director Rick Spisak appears in this weeks interviews with Emine Dilek of The Progressive Press. Rick will also interview Progressive Democratic Candidate Crystal M Lucas.
Candidate Lucas will discuss the primary issues that have brought her to offer her leadership to Florida House District 83. Her years as an educator in the Florida Public schools her years growing up in Florida have taught her how she can best contribute to building a better future for all of Floridas children. Challenges like the lack of resources in our schools and the proliferation and ubiquity of testing the panacea sought by all commercial testing company lobbyists.
