Good morning. Today, on The Meter, we will cover the latest in the Israeli-Hamas war as Israeli ground forces have begun raiding targets in Gaza in what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calla the second phase of the war. Also, activity is increasing in the north as Israeli exchanges fire with Hezebollah. The Israeli Air Force continues to strike targets in Southern Lebanon in preparation for a possible second front. As Iran openly threatened America at the Nations, the US bombed two targets in Syria after at least a dozen attacks on US bases in the region. How will the world prevent the war from expanding? Back home, another tragic mass shooting has gripped the nation. In Maine, 18 people lost their lives as a man with a semiautomatic rifle open fire at 2 locations, a bar, and a bowling alley. The killer was a former serviceman and firearms instructor who was recently hospitalized for depression and has a history of mental health problems. Is America failing in its background checks, or are there other causes for these shootings? As the next presidential election nears, a shakeup occurred on both sides of the political asile as Republican Mike Pence ended his campaign as he failed to qualify for the 3rd debate. The 48th vice-president criticized Donald Trump over the January 6th Capital riot and was never able to gain momentum in the race. Pence will wait before endorsing another candidate. On the Democrat side, Representative Dean Phillips (MN) has entered the primary against Joe Biden. Phillips has been encouraging a challenger to Biden. How will these developments affect the 2024 race? Finally, the Republican Party elected a speaker.
