Father’s Day is coming up, so in honor of dear old dad, the Art of Manliness is presenting a series of father-themed posts. Today we look into the history of Father’s Day. Sadly, retailers and marketers, in an effort to make a quick buck.the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Washington state on June 19, 1910.A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd came up with the idea.Total spending is expected to reach $14.3 billion, the highest in the survey’s 13-year history but still below this year’s Mother Day  total of $21.4 billion. 

• Child support due nationally totals $37.9 billion; 62.3% of that amount was paid on time, averaging $3,770 per year per parent who was due child support.
• 28.1% percent of all children in America live with one parent while the other parent lives elsewhere
• The percentage of Black children living in custodial parent families is just over 50%
• The percentage of White children living in custodial parent families is 24%
• 43.5% of custodial mothers were divorced or separated; 37.1% had never been married.
• 89.2% of all parents who were due child support payments were mothers
• For those custodial parents who were below the poverty line, child support payments constituted 66.7% of their median income.
