It has often been noted by fans of Old School music that artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown influenced the civil rights movement with music that inspired social activism among the people. But hip hop artists seem to be just the opposite, spouting lyrics that glorify mindless violence and self destructive behavior in the face of a desperate need for political empowerment through social activism. Where are the conscious hip hop artist?
