Will The Trayvon Martin Verdict Embolden Racist Whites to Attack Blacks?

The Not Guilty verdict for George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin shooting case has galvanized protesters across the country, who are now demanding that the Federal Justice Department investigate the case and bring Civil Rights violation charges against Zimmerman. Many feel that to allow this case to stand as the jury decided will only embolden racist whites, many who possess firearms, to begin shooting and killing black males and claiming "self defense." What steps should famiies take to protect their children from attack? What steps should black males take to prevent society's acceptance of attacks upon them? What about the out of control gang violence that still claims too many innocent lives? Will the ongoing street violence perpetated by blacks continue to be used as justification for whites killing black males?
