History is brought to life in a dialogue between ex-slaves and abolitionists Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, reinacted on stage this Spring by actors Abdul Hussain Quddus and Naimah Latif Today's conversation examines how the Post Civl War era of violence and poverty has not changed much in the last 150 years. "Sojourner Truth" discusses how the government's Freedmen's Bureau (like today's welfare system) creates a cycle of dependency, poverty, lawlessness, and immorality. "Frederick Douglass" talks about how the slave system created an emasculated male that had no respect for himself or women. Both met with President Abraham Lincoln to make demands for the newly freed black citizens of America. What can be done to reverse the modern day effects of slavery? Call in and comment.
