Mental health care is currently provided by three distinct cultural groups in the US: government, the private sector and the Church. The government offers services and information at local, state and federal levels; the private sector offers hospitals, physicians, therapists and grassroots organizations such as NAMI and VOCAL. But both the government and private sector groups are REACTIVE. The Church is uniquely positioned in our culture to be PROACTIVE regarding mental health issues.
