Suicide Prevention: Nina Bingham – Mental Health Counselor and Author

    in Psychology

Author and mental health counselor Nina Bingham discusses Suicide Prevention. She educates not only from her academic knowledge, but shares from her own hard-won life experience in a new and profound way. In private practice since 2003, she has treated individuals and couples with a wide variety of mental health issues. Her fifth book, “Once The Storm Is Over: From Grieving to Healing After The Suicide of My Daughter,” is due out in early 2015. It’s the autobiographical confession of a counselor who lost her teen daughter to suicide. What she learned about love and forgiveness changed her life forever.

Topics discussed on our show are listed below.  The full blog article and how to contact Nina can be found here:

We asked Nina to tell us about her work, and her new book, Once The Storm Is Over:

    What is the book’s message?

What impact did your daughter’s suicide have on you?

What are some factors that have helped you overcome the grief, and were key to your healing?

If a mental healthcare professional is experiencing symptoms, or one of their family members is, what is your advice for them?

How has coming out of the mental health closet changed your life?

What can be done to address the stigma that has accompanied mental illness in the past?

If our listeners have a friend or family member who is struggling with mental illness, or if they are, what should they do?

    Nina Bingham, Cht, AA, BA

Changing the Landscape of Behavioral Health Technology

    in Psychology

everythingEHR is always on the hunt for innovative technology that aids our Behavioral Health providers.  Our article on Spiritually Integrated Therapy was found by Next Step Solutions, Inc. After reading our other articles on why we care so much about this sector of healthcare, Next Step picked up the phone and made a connection with our CEO, Kristin Walker.

A visit to their corporate office in Michigan last year was yet another stop on our 2014 journey across the United States visiting EHR vendors and Behavioral Health practices.  Kristin had the opportunity to meet everyone on the team and see what a software organization does that is heavy on development and light on marketing agendas.  It was certainly a pleasure.

NextStep™ has developed a digital pen system and embedded artificial intelligence into their EHR.  Sounds unbelievable right?  A science fiction movie, maybe?  We saw it action at their office and while we visited several of their clients.  NextStep™ has clients across the United States using their award-winning software for behavioral health private practices, research clinics, residential programs, outpatient agencies and state hospitals.  It was a pleasure to sit down with Dr. Darrin Hanna and David Ballenberger, MSW to discuss their product, their organization, and what the future holds for behavioral health technology.

Behavioral Health Compliance: An Interview with Theresa Wray, LMFT

    in Psychology

Today we interview business owner, clinician, and consultant Theresa Wray of Synergy Consulting Services. A rare and exciting connection for us because of one major factor: Theresa loves finding needles in haystacks. In fact, she excels at it. All of the necessary yet hair pulling work that counselors and Behavioral Health organizations dread to do are actually fun for Theresa.  Things like reading your Managed Care contracts, auditing your charts, reviewing compliance plans, and verifying state regulations.  Enjoy getting to know her during our interview on Mental Health News Radio.  More importantly, enjoy getting to know what she can do for your Behavioral Health organization.

What made you start your consulting firm?

Why the name ‘Synergy’? What exactly does that mean?

You “officially” launched earlier this year. How are things going?

So who do you typically work with?

How so? What types of services do you provide?

Managed care, particularly around Compliance/Fraud, Waste, and Abuse, documentation, state-specific regulations, as well around some of the business-related issues that we weren’t taught about in grad school. For example, NPIs, CAQH, taxonomy codes, coming on board with managed care organizations, developing paperwork.

What would you say sets you and Synergy apart from many of the other coaches and consultants who are available to providers?

What advice would you give to someone considering opening their own practice or expanding their services?

How can people find out more about working with you?

Please enjoy the full blog article HERE.
