According to the National Retail Federation, the average holiday shopper will spend about $750 on gifts, décor, greeting cards and other items this holiday season. And the biggest portion of shoppers’ budget this year will reportedly go towards gifts for family members, with the average person planning to spend $421.82 on children, parents, aunt, uncles and more.  As you make your holiday gift list and check it twice, TCUL’s Your Money. Your Matters reminds holiday shoppers to control their spending this holiday season.

Retailers will be pulling out all the stops to lure holiday shoppers, and while it might be tempting to throw caution to wind and spend beyond your holiday budget, wrecking your finances in the name of seasonal cheer is never a good idea.

Sure the holidays can be full of fun and festivities, but they can also be extremely stressful – especially if you aren’t financially prepared. For the month of December, Your Money. Your Matters will focus on how to enjoy the holiday season without busting the budget. Tune in; share your thoughts; or gain a few tips that will help you give generously this holiday season without inviting financial disaster.

Dr. Susan Fletcher will be our special guest on the Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 episodes.

TCUL’s Your Money. Your Matters is a weekly show broadcasting every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon CDT.  The show features radio personalities Linda Webb-Mañon and Rick Grady of TCUL; Texas Credit Union Foundation’s Courtney Moran, and Todd Mark, Consumer Credit Counseling Services.
