Drug Addiction affects 23.2 million Americans — of whom only about 10 percent are receiving the treatment they need. Drug addiction is a dependence on an illegal drug or a medication. When you're addicted, you may not be able to control your drug use and you may continue using the drug despite the harm it causes. Drug addiction is a disease, but a treatable disease.

Special guest: Suzan Swanton currently serves as the Grants Project Officer for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Addiction Technology Transfer Center grants. Prior to joining SAMHSA, Suzan was the Executive Director of the Governor’s State Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council in Maryland and the State Opioid Treatment Authority for Maryland.  Suzan has 38 years of experience in the field of substance abuse treatment, policy development and training. In 2001, she received the Nyswander-Dole Award, which recognizes extraordinary work and service in the opioid treatment field.  http://www.samhsa.gov/
