How does black incarceration affect America

How does the incarceration of the Black man effect America? Is prison incarceration a backdoor to legalized slavery?  If you think that prison incarceration is not a backdoor, why are the two outcomes the same. Families and communities destroyed; labor stolen and all in the name of "Just Us."  What has changed (pre-civil rights era vs. post-civil rights era)?
