DUAL ARRESTS- WHAT IS IT, WHO USES IT, AND IS IT EFFECTIVE?
Sometimes when police officers are called to a domestic violence situation, they arrest the man, sometimes they arrest the woman, and then there are the times they arrest both. Some research indicates that dual arrest increases the likelihood of the victim being arrested along with the abuser. So why do some police departments do that? What can we do about it?
Julie Randall, a former probation officer turned victims’ rights advocate joins us to talk about dual arrests. She is the coordinator of the Hendricks County (Indiana) Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and was the founding executive director of Sheltering Wings domestic violence shelter. Her background in advocacy, community outreach, education and policy development will help us figure out whether dual arrest is a good thing or not, and why some police use the policy of duel arrests more than others.
THE POLICE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE- MORE THAN ARRESTS
You’ve heard about mandatory arrest in domestic violence cases – somebody is going to jail if you call the police, right? What about dual arrests? Do police have special training for DV? How do they decide who is the perpetrator? Who makes decisions about police training and actions in these cases?
All these questions and more will be covered by Margaret Alquist, MSW, MPA, when she joins us Saturday to talk about correction departments and domestic violence. Margaret is currently a presentence writer for sex offenders and also DV lead. She has been involved in domestic violence issues for the Washington State Department of Corrections and is responsible for developing and implementing a DV policy, curriculum, and training for DOC staff. Margaret started out her DV career as a community-based DV advocate with New Beginnings. She also served as a crisis social worker for Oahu Hawaii’s child protection system. Margaret is an active member of the King County DV and Child Maltreatment Coordinated Response Oversight Committee and has participated over the last ten year in an East King County collaborative on DV coordinated response. So let’s talk police and domestic violence!

Dr. Chaps reports on these important issues:
* Israel arrests three Jewish suspects that killed a Palestinian teen.
* Muslims in Iraq are raping Christian women as part of the spoils of war?
* The IRS is forced to pay $50,000 to a Christian ministry.
My name is Dr. Ramona Brockett, the research that I will discuss on this episode of The LanceScurv Show comes from my dissertation where I used secondary data from the NCCD archives of the University of Michigan and ran a logistic regression to determine African American (AA) and European American (EA) perceptions of police aggression.
I looked at justified police aggression and unjustified police aggression. When I say, "aggression," I mean police action. The areas of perception included everything from arrests to helping old ladies across the street.
The most important findings were these:
(1) AA's in the upper glass approved of police aggression at a lower rate than lower class EA's;
(2) Working class AA's and Working class EA's approved similarly police to both justified and unjustified police aggression; and,
(3) working class AA's approve of both justified and unjustified police aggression at a higher rate than the upper class AA's, middle class AA's and lower class AA's. Dissimilarly, EA's approval is proportionate with class. So, upper class A's approve at the highest rates and approval decreases with class.
A second topic we need to explore is my Conceptual Incarceration Theory. This theory looks at the 13th Amendment and I contend that inherent within the wording of the 13Th Amendment, the AA is reinslaved upon incarceration. Thus, the reason why black life is devalued--we are not considered human. Thus, Garner etc., could easily be killed.
Lance and I look forward to your presence and participation in the sharing of my findings.
See you there!

He says, “I offer paintings of simple, natural objects in sharp detail, painted in a larger-than-life scale. This arrests the viewer’s attention and raises his awareness to a higher level. In this state of increased sensitivity, there is a keen appreciation of the natural world and the beauty to be found therein.”

his morning i was reading and came across that Nebraska is suing Colorado over marijuana.
In a statement and subsequent news conference Thursday, Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning said Colorado's marijuana legalization has adversely affected his state. Colorado pot is turning up in Nebraska, he said, resulting in an increase in marijuana-related arrests on his state's western border.
"Nebraska taxpayers have to bear the cost," Bruning said, in comments reported by the Omaha World-Herald. "We can't afford to divert resources to deal with Colorado's problem."
"Federal law undisputedly prohibits the production and sale of marijuana," Bruning added in a statement. "Colorado has undermined the United States Constitution, and I hope the U.S. Supreme Court will uphold our constitutional principles."
im going on record i hate Nebraska!! when i was there 3 years ago on the mhh tour i got arrested twice for marijuana. your attorney general is a assclown who is ignorant and has no interest in facts. spending your tax dollars arresting people smoking marijuana is just plain stupid and unnecessary.
i live in california and i get my weed delivered to my door legally everyday and have lost focus that in Nebraska people are in fear of going to jail over a harmless plant and the cancer patients face prison terms for treating there illness
i have decided to move to Nebraska and head up there dysfunctional normal offices and i will get marijuana legalization on the ballot for 2016 and also put john brunning out of office
Nebraska we are coming to help because this lawsuit is the last straw Colorado will not be bullied by some ignorant farmer who's only excuse for marijuana being illegal is that he is old school
