The United Party for National Development (UPND) at a press conference held during the week announced the appoinment of embattled Kasama Central Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) as its Vice President. To everyones' amazement the newly appointed VP declared he wasn't religuishing neither his party membership nor his seat as MP of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF). UPND president HH went on to defend this position by stating or arguing that if the Republican President was able to appoint members of parliament from opposition politicalpartys to the cabinet, he didn't see anything wrong with GBM holding onto to both his party membership and seat in parliament under the PF. However, the outcry from various communities and constitutional law experts think otherwise. Elias Munshya a lawyer by qualification joins on the ZBTR Roundtable to enlighten and elaborate on the actual provisions of the Republican constitution relating to members of parliament party membership.
