    in Politics

Hon. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba popularly known as "GBM" is the current Member of Parliament for Kasama Central constituency in Northern Province. A self made successful businessman, he is also former Minister of Defence in the ruling Patriotic Front's government of the late President H.E. Micheal Chilufya Sata. Hon. Mwamba's woes started during the late president's refusal to recognize Mr Sosala who is the current Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people  which led to his eventual resignation from his cabinet position. GBM well known for his generosity and not shy to openly declare his wealth, also found himself at odds with his party when he decided to support and campaign for the opposition candidate and president of UPND, Mr Hakainde Hichilema during the just ended presidential election which led to disciplinary action against him and eventual expulsion from the PF party. Hon Mwamba is our featured guest to discuss his radical decisions and political future, .

ZBTR Round Table II- Race to State House

    in Politics

The day for the presidential election in Zambia is drawing closer as we get into the month of January, the teams for the leading candidates HH of the UPND & Edgar Lungu's PF return to our popular round table discussion. The message from the HH camp has been that the PF government has failed lamentably and giving another mandate to the ruling party is utter suicide for the nation. On the other hand the Edgar Lungu camp is asking for continuity of their mandate to complete their projects and term which was given to them in the 2011 polls. The team will analyse the dreaded Public Order Act and press freedom, size of cabinet and government expenditure, the highly anticipated people driven constitution, prudent fiscal management and transparent public expenditure, what is the candidates position on domestic investment versus foreign direct investment, is an independent judiciary feasible? Join our round table team as they examine these issues of critical significance to our nation's governance process.

Dr. Neo Simutanyi- Zambia Decides 2015

    in Politics

Dr Neo Simutanyi is a political analyst and Excecutive Director at the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) an independent, non-partisan and non-profit organization dedicated to formulating and promoting alternative public policies based on principles of social justice, limited government, individual freedom and rule of law. The CPD has conducted electoral polls in previous elections including the 2011 elections which they predicted that the then opposition Patriotic Front would carry the day. Dr Simutanyi joins us to discuss his recent pronouncement about the significance and role of Lusaka & Eastern provinces determining the winner of the January 20, 2015 presidential election. He has also maintained that the race still remains between the ruling Patriotic Front and the opposition UPND.

We will also get an update from Mr Cris Akufuna, spokesperson for the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) on their preparedness to conduct this election and of any challenges being faced and the political parties adherence to the electoral code.

  • ZBTR Round Table- Zambia Decides 2015

    in Politics

Happy New Year the nation of Zambia will be voting for a new president on January 20, 2015. The race is clearly between Edgar Lungu's ruling paty the Patriotic Front and the opposition presumably leading contender Hakainde Hichilema popularly known as "HH" of the United Party for National Development. It is clear from social media, campaign rallies and media promotions that this is a highly anticipated election which is also being seen as HH's golden opportunity with endorsements coming from all angles and sectors of the community. The Round table discussion hosts the two leading camps to debate and present the case for their candidates. Can HH overturn his poor showing in the 2011 polls in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Luapula, Northern, Copperbelt and Eastern provinces? Will the numerous endorsements from rival party top leadership translate into actual votes? The PF has been riddled with unprecedented divisions for a party going into a presidential election, can they overcome their poor start to the campaign and reclaim their late president's popularity? Does GBM's change of heart to join HH's bandwagon mean anything, whilst Miles Sampa continues to stand on the fence? Join us for our featured comeback round table discussion in the New Year.
