Our guest this week on Tomatoes in the Trenches is Shelly Fabares. A lot of tomatoes out there came of age with her. From 1958-1963 she was America’s undisputed sweetheart on the Donna Reed show playing the ever-wholesome daughter Mary Stone. She had a #1 billboard song in 1962 “Johnny Angel”. She was Elvis Presley’s leading lady in, count ‘em, three movies. Frank Sinatra once sang to her on a TV special. She played opposite James Caan in Brian’s Song, and then returned to the small screen in shows that included The Practice, High Cliff Manor, Fernwood, and One Day at Time. In recent years she captivated us again in her role as the strong willed woman who played Craig T. Nelson’s mate on Coach for 8 seasons, a role for which she received 2 Emmy Nominations. She is BFF to Annette Funicello. For the past 25 years she has been married to actor, activist Mike Farrell (M*A*S*H). These days she has pink spiky hair and has avoided the Hollywood pressures to keep her face eternally young, which in our book is just one of the many reasons why she’s still America’s sweetheart. Don’t miss our interview with this fabulous tomato on Wed. at 1PM EST live on Tomatoes in the Trenches. (Or on demand at your leisure.)
