Turning around one of America's most violent schools. This week we talk to filmmaker Beth Toni Kruvant about her award-winning documentary "Heart of Stone". The film dramatically tells the story of Weequahic High School in Newark, New Jersey which in 1960 was one of the top schools in America and by 2000 was one of the most violent schools, controlled by gangs. The film follows the arrival of principal Ron Stone and his unconventional plan to turn the school around along with the help of a group of mostly older Jewish and young African American alums.. We'll also talk to Beth about her transition from lawyer to filmmaker. Don't miss this conversation.
