Recently, a two-year-old giraffe named Marius was publicly executed in front of children at the Copenhagen Zoo. He was then butchered and fed to the lions. The world reaction was one of horror and disgust. People cried out for justice. How do we justify raising an animal that is our responsibility and then killing it for reasons that are no longer acceptable? Where is the zoo's responsibility to demonstrate compassion and respect in the way they treated Marius in his final moments? Why would the Copenhagen Zoo refuse to rehouse Marius when they had valid, legitimate offers? Do we need to rethink about the useful purpose zoos have now in the world? What could the Copenhagen Zoo find "educational" in the macabre spectacle they provided to the public? Where does the money game fit into the big picture of zoos? In this special evening edition of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will talk to world renowned animal communicator, Laura Lassiter, about the recent public execution of Marius the giraffe and what people can do to bring about change.
