In The Souls Waiting Room: Ashes to Ashes, Stardust to Stardust

    in Environment

KEEPER: (PAUSE … gently.) I really thought you understood, Jeff. You’ve just had an awakening. Your story just changed. That’s a disorienting event. You’re asking what’s the hope of trying if in the end it’s all going to be destroyed? Is that right?
INTERVIEWER: (PAUSE) I think what I’m asking is why some of us are trying so hard if the outcome is already written. That’s what I’m asking. This feels like a betrayal, Keeper; that device we keep talking about.
KEEPER: Oh no. Not a betrayal. In fact, all life as you know has been entrusted to you.
This is the final season one episode of In The Souls Waiting Room.

A conversation with Tim DeChristopher from Bidder70.org

    in Environment

Enjoy a delightful conversation with Utah's activist Tim DeChristopher and Shane Snipes. About DeChristopher from Huffington Report >>> "The epic fight to ward off global warming and transform the energy system that is at the core of our planet's economy takes many forms: huge global days of action, giant international conferences like the one that just failed in Copenhagen, small gestures in the homes of countless people.

But there are a few signal moments, and one comes next month, when the federal government puts Tim DeChristopher on trial in Salt Lake City. Tim -- "Bidder 70" -- pulled off one of the most creative protests against our runaway energy policy in years: he bid for the oil and gas leases on several parcels of federal land even though he had no money to pay for them, thus upending the auction. The government calls that "violating the Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Leasing Reform Act" and thinks he should spend ten years in jail for the crime; we call it a noble act, a profound gesture made on behalf of all of us and of the future.

Tim's action drew national attention to the fact that the Bush Administration spent its dying days in office handing out a last round of favors to the oil and gas industry. After investigating irregularities in the auction, the Obama Administration took many of the leases off the table, with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar criticizing the process as "a headlong rush." And yet that same Administration is choosing to prosecute the young man who blew the whistle on this corrupt process." >>> Email us show ideas or interview requests to info@sustainable1000.com, Tweet us at @vannShane, IM on GTalk @ vannShane or call-in your questions or comments to (347)996-3601. part 5 - intersecting diversity with the environmental movement - economics

    in Environment

    Episode 2: Part 5:
The purspose of this show is to be an introduction to next month's (June) theme. The next will be Episode 3.
The purpose of today's show is to critique who is getting sustainable, long term, green employment.  At the same time as recruiting more diversity representation, who is getting paid and able to make a living doing 'conscious' / 'ethical' green work? Today's show will introduce the concept of green racism and look at this as a systemic process, the case in study will be the organization called "Green Peace". At the same time as having a great name, and promoting the idea to save the world and nature, the people creating the campaigns, decision makers and research paper writers are predominately white while the person's folding envelopes and answering phones is diversity people from employment equity groups.  People of color are also the ones assigned to make fundraising calls and do the degrading work of asking people for money to fund the organization. Today's show wil interrogate this practice called Green Institutional Racism. What green organizations proposing to be open, diverse and sustainable are practicing this Green Economic Racism? Let's talk about this green world problem and collectively decide next steps that provide a better solution.
