When men of cultures in all parts of the world say they are about to get married, their friends and family members congratulate them. When an African American men say they are about to get married, they are laughed at and discouraged with comments like "You sure you want to do that?" Poverty, broken homes, and a welfare system that forced men out of the house so that women could get paid to provide for their children destroyed the African American culture of marriage and family. We can't blame slavery, because at the turn of the century, statistically speaking, blacks were marrying at a higher rate than whites in America. But high male unemployment and the welfare system has so thoroughly dismantled the role of men in the lives of their children, boys grow up planning on having a bunch of women, unlimited sex, and money to indulge themselves in a perpetual state of adolescence. This creates exactly what we have - dysfunctional communities where misguided young men are dangerous predators on women, the elderly and children, instead of strong young men who are the protectors and the providers. How do we correct it? Today's guest, Dr. Obari Cartman, author of "Lady's Man" joins our relationship experts Imam Kariem Hameed and sister Muneera Habeel to give a personal and historical perspective.
