How do the police get involved in DV cases? Arrest policies are examined in this show in addition to alternative resources for police to consider. Civil protection orders and mental health statutes appear to complicate the police response at first glance, but ultimately these are tools for officers to use toward resolving domestic violence conflict. The determination of probable cause is of critical importance to any police action that may involve an arrest. As a result, officers must collect evidence and question suspects. In this program we discuss primary and dominant aggressor determination. Also discussed are the constitutional constraints that police officers must work within to gather information and evidence.
