You've probably heard many of the stories of people's potential success going by the wayside just because they wouldn't change this or that about themselves. The thug genius who chose crime over the straight life even though he could make it going straight. The really pretty and talented  girl that always chose the man that brought her down instead of the one that might've lifted her up. How many people do we know that have gone in and out of jail talking about they're gonna stay out for good this time?

Sometimes it happens in subtle ways like when people do well in a field of work but won't take a higher position for whatever reason or have to find a new job because the company they worked for wants them to relocate or travel more. The woman that can't move up in her job because she gets pregnant too much and her company needs someone that is more dependable. Perhaps some people are afraid that success will alienate them from the people that they hang around with or make them a little Bourgoise?

Some people who are addicted to the strugglae call it "Keeping it real" or being "Loyal to the hood". Are the rules of the hood that you can't advance or that you can't work your way up to a safer hood? What do you think? Do you know anything about this situation?

That's what we'll be talking about this week. Check it out. Offer input. Learn something. Teach something.
