Founder Monique Evans Biography

Monique Evans is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The L.E.I.L.A. Empowerment Project Inc. based in Prince Georges County, MD.

Monique is a survivor of domestic and sexual abuse.  Monique endured sexual abuse as a child, and physical abuse at the hands of her abuser for years.  Initially it was shame, embarrassment and fear that kept Monique in her situation with her abuser and from speaking out about her childhood sexual abuse.  Monique suffered many visible and invisible scars as a result of her abuse.  And although she knew the visible ones would heal it was the invisible ones that hurt her the most.  Monique finally got up the courage to leave her abuser, but not before he left her with a permanent reminder of their relationship.  Monique’s abuser took a cane and hit her in the mouth and knocked out two of her front teeth, ultimately resulting in her smile being changed.
