Doug Michael and Lee discuss how he became a writer/cartoonist and the set of circumstances that caused him to change career paths to become a successful baker.  A lucky break got one of Mr. Michael’s products national exposure and almost literally overnight his small baking business became wildly successful.  Mr. Michael also reveals when and why he switched to a plant-based diet and the many benefits he’s attained from the switch, as well as his plans for the future of his company, one of which is forming a partnership with PlantPure Nation to introduce his products to a wider audience.

Doug Michael is the owner and founder of Columbia County Bread & Granola, a very successful producer of plant-based foods.  He started out as a cartoonist, writing and illustrating graphic novels for DC Comics and Fantagraphics Books. He also read manuscripts for the literary department of The William Morris Agency.  In 2007, he developed a successful recipe for sprouted grain bread.  He soon expanded his efforts to include a salt-free, oat-free, flax-based granola. Today Columbia County Bread & Granola is a small, but highly dedicated company of bakers, packers, designers, and office staff, as well as a retail outlet called the Bakers Guild Cafe.
