By request of one of our followers, tonight’s topic is about how to find a healthy relationship, after you have been in a toxic one.

It sounds simple, and it can be, but it is not always easy. There are many reasons that people wind up in relationships that are unhealthy or toxic, and those reasons need to be addressed first, before any kind of meaningful and long-term progress can be made.

This topic is not necessarily about a mental illness issue, but it definitely can impact our mental health when things are not going well. Also, there can be additional issues in relationships that might be caused or influenced by a mental health issue.

Being in a healthy relationship is unfortunately not a skill that is built in to our society, culture, or educational system, as likely to be taught to most people before they reach their teens, when they begin forming a relationship history. Because of this, we will look at healthy relationships at a basic level, and how to adjust our choices and patterns to work towards having them.

Tonight, we will discuss:

  1. What is a Toxic Relationship?
  2. What is a Healthy Relationship?
  3. How/Why we end up in Toxic Relationships
  4. Work to do before a new, healthy relationship.

We'll start off the evening with some topic-relevant Classic Rock played by Dr. Mathis, followed by Classic Rock trivia in "The Rock & Roll Shrink Recalls," followed by our topic discussion.

Please follow our bi-weekly, Wednesday evening shows, at 11 pm EST/EDT. We will have a new topic for you in two weeks!
