Why is it so difficult, even scary, for parents to talk with their adolescents about dating, unhealthy relationships, and how they can best protect themselves? Let’s get real: how many of you had a discussion about the birds and bees with your parents as a teenager? Frequently, we as parents don’t have the modeling of our own parents to guide the way. But we must
find a way to start the conversation with our children/adolescents in order for both children and parents to feel as safe and protected as possible.
Darlene Kiyan joined Break the Cycle in 2014. She has more than fifteen years of professional experience in human service delivery and advocacy. She has extensive experience in the management of non-profit organizations and programmatic implementation strategies. Alot of times we fall so hard into relationship at points of time in our lives. Whether it be husband/ wife, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Best Friends, Mother/Father... each of these relationship sucess depends on us. Believe it or not, how we react to things, what we say, and our timing can make of break these relationships. We want to discuss these issues but also highlight the forces behind broken relationships, how to identify positive relationships, and when its time to separate from the negative ones....
Relationships! This is the number one concern I am asked of my clients. Relationships are based around love; be it the love of self, love of connection, love of others company, love of friendship or love with intimacy. Each of us define it uniquely as our own.
