Tiger Woods? ‘Unplayable,’ says author Robert Lusetich of the worst year of the golfer’s life

Just who is Tiger Woods? With his recent return to the PGA Tour at the Masters, Tiger Woods is once again dominating the news. Reporters and fans alike are analyzing his every move on the course and every word he utters. Theories abound about the state of his golf game. And of his marriage. Questions are flying: Has he learned anything since that fateful November day? Is Phil Mickelson’s win at the Masters is karma’s way of rectifying the wrongs in the world? Is there more to the “world’s greatest golfer” than the restrained public persona that Tiger offers?

According to veteran journalist Robert Lusetich, who covered every one of Tiger’s PGA Tour events in his 2009 comeback season after reconstructive knee surgery, there is a lot more to the most recognizable yet least known athlete in the world. And in his book, Unplayable: An Inside Account of Tiger’s Most Tumultuous Season , he delves deep into the perfect storm—the parents, the upbringing, the sport he chose, his talent, and the strength of his mind and determination—and yes, the imperfections—that created Tiger Woods.

Lusetich, a former foreign correspondent for The Australian and current senior columnist for FoxSports.com, has been fascinated by the game of golf and Tiger Woods, long before the scandal broke about Woods’s adulterous affairs. For the veteran writer, Tiger is one of those sporting supernovas who come along once in a generation.
