CITY BEAT CITY TALK

CITY BEAT CITY TALK

Great show(s)Mr. Media. Super interviews and enlightening topics. Listened to your show today and could hardly hear because of the static. Is that how I sound, came to mind? I host Springfield City Beat 1080 Internet Radio at blogtalkradio.com/city-beat-city-talk Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and wish/hope I get to be as good as you, over on my station. Could I interview you sometime, ya know chat program to program about the good and bad of being a show host on blogtalkradio. Might be interesting. Anyway, liked your show today, listened after I got off mine, so come over and listen to me sometime and let's get acquainted. I am a screenwriter as well, so Hollywood is one common ground. Thanks again, for representing what good radio should sound like (minus the static)! Sincerely, Bobby Fleeks aka "The Doctor" on Springfield "City Beat City Talk."

Gov. Jesse Ventura sees American Conspiracies around every corner!

In his new book, American Conspiracies: Lies, Lies, and More Dirty Lies That the Government Tells Us, Jesse Ventura—former Navy SEAL, governor, pro-wrestler, TV personality, Harvard University professor, and best-selling author—begins an investigative journey to prove that there is more to our national history than the government wants us to know. With characteristic energy and honesty, he shares his many non-mainstream opinions, researched facts, and unanswered questions. His quest for the truth urges all Americans—skeptics and conspiracy enthusiasts alike—to examine the evidence.

Ventura is the former Independent Governor of Minnesota. He is also a former U.S. Navy SEAL, professional wrestler, movie actor, a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and the NewYork Times best-selling author of four books. He is currently the host and executive producer of TruTV’s ”Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura.” He has a reputation as a rebel and a free-thinker; he is also passionate about the world of conspiracy theories and has no qualms about questioning authority.

INTERVIEW: Melissa Leo, actress, TREME, FROZEN RIVER, HOMICIDE

Oscar-nominated actress Melissa Leo reunites with Homicide creator David Simon for new HBO series set in New Orleans, Treme!

Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo (Frozen River) has a great role in the much heralded post-Katrina, New Orleans-based drama Tremé, premiering April 11th on HBO.

Known for her intense portrayals of everyday women in films such as 21 Grams and on television shows like Homicide: Life on the Streets, Melissa plays a civil rights lawyer married to a professor and outspoken critic (John Goodman) of the government's slow response to the hurricane's devastation. Her character becomes intertwined in the show's other plot lines as she comes to the aid of Khandi Alexander's character in search of the latter's missing brother who was incarcerated at the time of the hurricane.

Melissa also has three big films set to be released later this year: The Fighter for director David O. Russell opposite Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg; Betty Anne Waters starring Hilary Swank; and Welcome to the Riley's opposite James Gandolfini and Kristen Stewart.

This summer, Leo will shoot the much anticipated remake Mildred Pierce opposite Kate Winslett. It's a semi-reunion of two of the women who competed for the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2009.

INTERVIEW: Jackie Collins, Hollywood novelist, RICH LITTLE BITCH GIRL

Sexy Hollywood novels? Could it be anyone but Jackie Collins talking to Mr. Media?

INTERVIEW STARTS @ 10:05 p.m. ET! Jackie Collins understood our appetite for Hollywood and celebrity scandal way before the likes of TMZ and Perez Hilton came to be. Despite the sheer abundance of celebrity news stemming from even the most venerable of news outlets, society’s lust for the fast lane has not waned. Validating this notion, Jackie’s 27th book – POOR LITTLE BITCH GIRL – just reached #4 on The New York Times Best-Seller list.

A ripped from the headlines story, Poor Little Bitch Girl, has all the fixings of a triple power setting in New York, Washington and L.A: a sex-starved politician, a rich girl gone up-scale Madame, a murdered movie star and lots of East-West coast of bed-hopping. While there have been many imitators, only Jackie can tell you what really goes on in the fastest lane of all. From Beverly Hills bedrooms to a raunchy prowl along the streets of Hollywood; from glittering rock parties and concerts to stretch limos and the mansions of power brokers - she chronicles the real truth from the inside looking out.

Often called Hollywood’s own Marcel Proust, Jackie has sold some 400 million books in 40 countries throughout a three-decade career.

INTERVIEW: Mark Griffin, biographer, VINCENTE MINNELLI

Legendary film director Vincente Minnelli couldn’t hide from biographer Mark Griffin!

He was the acclaimed director of such cinematic classics as Meet Me in St. Louis, An American in Paris, and Gigi, and equally well known for his tumultuous marriage to the legendary Judy Garland. But to say that Vincente Minnelli's conflicted personal life informed his films would be an understatement. As Mark Griffin persuasively demonstrates in this definitive biography of the Academy Award–winning director, Minnelli was not only building a remarkable Hollywood legacy, but also creating an intriguing autobiography in code.

Drawing on more than 100 interviews with such icons as Kirk Douglas, Angela Lansbury, Lauren Bacall, Tony Curtis, and George Hamilton, Griffin turns the spotlight on the enigmatic “elegant director,” revealing long-kept secrets at the heart of Minnelli’s genius.

Mark Griffin is the author of A Hundred or More Hidden Thing: The Life and Films of Vincente Minnelli (Da Capo Press, 2010). His essays, film reviews, and reporting have appeared in the Boston Globe, Out, Genre, and in several anthologies. He lives in Lewiston, Maine. br>

INTERVIEW: Hilary Price, cartoonist, RHYMES WITH ORANGE

What Rhymes With Orange? Only cartoonist Hilary Price knows!

At 22, Hilary Price graduated from Stanford University and moved up to San Francisco. She freelanced as a copywriter for an ad agency and peddled her cartoons to the San Francisco Chronicle. The editor was kind, and she published them every few weeks. This got her motivated to send the strip off to syndicates, and in 1995, at the tender age of 25, she started Rhymes With Orange.

I now draw the strip in what was once an old Massachusetts toothbrush factory, now converted to office space for artists and small businesses.

One of her goals in the strip is to inspire more young women to join the field. Her early inspirations were Dr. Seuss for the rhymes, Shel Silverstein for the clever word play and black-and-white illustrations, and The New Yorker cartoonists Roz Chast, Sam Gross and George Booth.

Rhymes With Orange appears in 150 newspapers nationwide, and has made cameos in People magazine, Forbes, Glamour, and The Funny Times. br>

INTERVIEW: Jennifer Greer, pianist, singer, FIST FULL OF STARS

Jennifer Greer sings sweetly sensual songs to Mr. Media!

Jennifer Greer is a self-taught, detail-obsessed singer/songwriter/pianist who has been singing since she was a little girl. She joins Mr. Media to talk about her new CD, Fist Full of Stars.

Growing up in a suburb near New York City, poetry was her first love and artistic medium. At 25 she began to write music, being drawn to the piano like a magnet. Jennifer's distinctive voice-which soars from earthy and sensual to sweetly lush-is showcased in her last album the Apiary, which critics have called "stunning."

Jennifer's songs push the boundaries of pop, by blending jazz, funk and classical tone poem. Her songs tend to be about outer rather than inner subjects, such as stories in the news, characters from books, as well as personal experience.

She won the WRSI singer/songwriter contest in 2001, is a Winner for Best Adult Alternative CD 2005 from the Muse's Muse and won "best unsigned pop artist" from Verbicide magazine in 2008.
