Jewel is a graduate of the Mercer University Law School, having received her Juris Doctor Degree. She also holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of the West Indies Law School and an advanced degree, Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School. Jewel is a member of the Georgia Bar Association, the Clayton County Bar Association, the New York Bar, the Turks & Caicos Bar and the Jamaica Bar Association. She is a community educator frequently talking with young people to deter them from a life of mediocrity and crime. She is also a frequent radio guest speaker on issues related to the law.

Jewel was elected to the office of District Attorney of Clayton County serving from January 2005 to December 31, 2008. While in office she implemented many programs which helped rehabilitate and empower first time, non-violent offenders. She also introduced programs to help at-risk teens and young men as well as working tirelessly with community organizations to reduce incidents of domestic violence.

Jewel's priorities are, Education, Immigration, Economy & Employment, Health Care, Energy and Environment, Women's Rights and Retirement/Security.
