it's been almost 15 years since Voodoo had me vibing and scratching my head at the same time. The music was so different and fresh it almost went right over my head. The new 'Black Messiah' album does the same thing. None of D'Angelo albums sound the same but they have one thing in common, they make you love it. 'Sugah Daddy' is a throwback to that Brown Sugar upbeat sound, and 'Really Love' plays like a Voodoo outtake with extra beauty lad on top, while 'The Charade' is a ode to his Prince influence. 'The Prayer' mixes his new guitar lick sound with a hint of Voodoo and his gospel roots. I can go through 'Back to the Future Part 1' and 'Another Life' and all the tracks, but they are incredible pieces that have jazz, funk, gospel, soul, rock influnces that are fused together to make a body of work.

This album came out of no where, now it's up to us to listen to it tirelessly and thank the man for giving us something to listen to in this age of unoriginal, uninspired, and un-listenable music.
