"God don't make no junk!" That's what my mama told me. My husband's parents made him repeat "I'm black and I'm proud" as they combed out his afro. We both grew up in culturally-affirming households, and now we're working to provide our daughter with the same.
The world will try all sorts of ways to make us believe that God made a mistake when He created us. But we don't live by the world's standards nor play by the world's rules. God desires for each one of us to love the skin we are in, the hair we were given, the body we carry around, and so forth. Of course, we should take care of ourselves, but we aren't supposed to change ourselves to meet the world's standards of perfection. Nor should we have to denounce our blackness just because we are Christian.
On this show, we are discussing how to love yourself in a world that refuses to love you just the way you are.
