Our brotherhood exists because so many of us have committed voluntarily to a way of thought and living. One of the questions respectable people would never ask is about your self-worth. Our modest claim-good men better-addresses the point on behalf.  Intellectual development can occur through various paths.  Assuming the need to be uncomfortably dedicated is a preconceived mindset unfair to you and me. Take that another step and unlike our brotherhood, it would be a club organized around external functions.  On the other hand Masonry is about exposure to significant ideas focusing on discovery of purpose and living accordingly- the inner man.  Perhaps it is clearer if think about the Oracle at Delphi. Ask a question. Receive an answer obvious or not. Clarity was yours to discover.  In a way, either it takes courage or a resignation or despair. Many come to the door each for their own reasons. Many walk away. Asking the question can be daunting. Such questions reveal much about a person.  We are not always able to handle truth. Reserved, convivial and refined are words that describe an atmosphere conducive to learning and reasoning. It gently becomes more obvious if we weigh into knowledge, like meaning of symbols and ritual teaching ethics.  The thousand points of light, they are us come together to create. Respect the challenge is difficult in its own way.  While Grand Lodges deal with external and internal organizational pressures, spirituality, philosophy and ethics remain extant and in practice so quietly they might go unnoticed. Masonry respects the individual journey. It is a daunting challenge to search for purpose in life. And moreso to self-regulate and live by those values.  Is it worthwhile? Find out for yourself. While the world evolves, people will have uneven access to opportunity. Masonry will be there.
