Almost a year ago, Celeste Morgan started a journey to recover parts of herself she thought she lost. When her mother, Linda Lee Harris, ended her battle with breast cancer on December 17, 2005, Celeste barely recognized her own life. She found it hard to be in the world and profoundly experienced the loss of covering, as in losing her protection or foundation. During her development and growing up, Linda Lee Harris provided loving, mothering and honored all of her expressions unconditionally. Along the grief journey, Celeste attempted to regain the loss outside her self through avoidance, suppression, and denial that did not serve her well. True healing finally began when she took the journey home through her own heart and mind. As deep desire to connect with the truth of who she is continued to grow, she learned that the Universe supplied mightily as she reconciled with family, connected with community and friends, and made decisions to honor her own path. Celeste firmly believes that every day is an opportunity to grow and show up and be a blessing. With deep gratitude and appreciation, she speaks about the gifts of grief and will explore strategies for accepting and learning how to receive the blessings found in transitions. How are we doing as we approach the holidays? Which tools are you employing? Is there a loved one you would like to remember? Where is our living water and sacred well from which we draw the energy we most need? Who do we become in an effort to reconcile loss? Who do we hurt as we clumsily walk our path trying to deny the fruit of its painful sting? How do we invite loving experiences into our lives when we are grieving? Celeste Morgan, MSW, LGSW, U of MD, B.A. in Human Relations, Trinity U. Celeste worked as a volunteer and Health Program Manager at SMYAL–Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League. Celeste enjoys being of service and finding creative ways to help people look for their strengths. Email for newsletter link or additional info.
