Elevate The Soul

We Elevate The Soul (WETS) is directed towards preparing the village for transformative and sustainable change. We believe that our true work is to focus inwardly and encourage others to consider and work through the care of their self through soulfulness and self-knowledge, awareness of their gifts, the impacts of their wounds and fears, the role of illusion, distraction and ignorance. If change is to really take root and provide for additional justice against all forms of oppression we believe that we can find peace in hearing from other’s experiences and spending our own personal time in solitude and reflection. Our lives resemble a Mobius Strip (reflecting both the inner self and the public self intertwined) and often times the Ego wants to control. WETS is also about a soul journey and the “whole person” exploring topics and mental energy fields that have been created that contribute to our segmented lives and explains why we are where we are on many different levels. WETS also want to be able to insight diversity and opinions that may not be communicated through our normal and/or regular commercial media channels. Topics will include issues related to forms of oppression, politics, the soul and inner journeys, environment, education and more. Join us on the journey of self-exploration as we hold space to consciously listen to our own inner voices and hear from those voices as they navigate the material realm. As Earth, Wind and Fire say in one of their songs; "Talking to yourself is fine...it shows you where the trouble lies." Peace, Blessings and stay tuned.

Show Notes

Building Cultural Capital will increase the likelihood and help to ensure that we better understand and mobilize all assets (financial, human, environmental, social, etc.). If the only asset you value is financial, you are already broke. Understand the culture that has been developed that tears at your soul and forces the majority to suffer oppression.

There May Be More To Thanksgiving Than Meets the Eye: What Are You Thankful For?

Over the past few weeks we have been investing time discussing different forms of capital. The premise was that if the only capital you value is financial…then you are already broke (segmented). The discussion really began when I further examined the state of poverty in the United States after we declared war on it during the late 60s. The lack of mention in either candidate’s position during their campaign speeches didn’t help matters much either. We began by discussing a framework of capitalism and then began to discuss spiritual capital, cultural and financial. Over the coming shows we will explore human, environmental, physical, political and social capital. There is so much to be thankful for and in light of the holidays coming up we thought we would dedicate this show to what we are thankful for. We certainly are thankful that we can do a show. We began in March and have begun to add friends, over 2,600 people have checked out the profile and over 1,400 have listened to the shows. We are thankful for our friend’s shows and encourage you to check them out as well. We are most thankful that we have yet another opportunity to add to the quality of transformation of our human experience. So join us, Emilio and my Co-Host Ty Gray-EL. Share with us what Thanksgiving means to you. We've got to hear story, poetry, music, experience and - Elevate The Soul - If you can only drop by to shout out what you are thankful for I’m sure that will be a message someone needs to hear.

Building Capital From The Inside Out: $Financial Capital$

WE ARE BACK!!! - Money alone doesn’t ensure happiness. What we call money is only a medium of exchange for goods and services. It replaced barter systems of old because it became impractical to carry around exchangeable goods such as clothes, livestock, etc. Credit card companies have begun to penalize consumers for paying their balance off too early. Banks and gun manufacturers made the most gain in profit. Fear is associated with your money including but not limited to the lack of it, what it is, how to manage it, how to keep it, invest it or use it. As a medium of exchange, money has become a major social control mechanism. Halloween is touted as being the 6th leading financial generating holiday in America. Black Friday begins the day after Thanksgiving when the ridiculous spending begins. The entire economy will be based on the amount you spend for gifts this Christmas. Folk have become so caught up in the things that money buys that they measure their lives and success by the amount they have. Hello, folk! Wake up and let’s examine this one. What is the impact to the soul? What about debt slavery? Are there tips to know as they relate to balancing a checkbook, reducing mortgage, wealth, savings that will help us. Join us as we examine the impact of financial capital on our bodies, our soul and ultimately – our world. Sandra Hurst states, “Five major definitions of wealth combine to form our subconscious attitudes and reactions to money (financial, intellectual, interpersonal, physical and spiritual) and that all are important for excellence and prosperity.”- Check out the fool article http://www.hh-bb.com Featured Guest: Brian Riley, President and CEO of Synergy Financial Services located in Silver Spring, Maryland. SFS is a full service firm with a mission to educate and provide comprehensive 21st century financial solutions - teaching financial stewardship while ultimately becoming the lender. http://www.synergyfservices.com.

The Social Construct of Race and It's Destructiveness

We are so saturated, disconnected, and continually reminded of and focused upon a social construct "race" and the practice of "racism" that we lose site of our "hue-manity" and the purpose and source of light we bring. As we continue the Building Capital From the Inside Out Series, pick up from last week's show highlighting deformations of racism and how race has been used to create a culture of fear. This internalized oppression takes us further away from our own internal guidance system-our very souls. Egos war with others who are different and we become the very thing we wanted to change - bigoted oppressors who want to get even. Understanding origin should never be used to oppress others as you have been oppressed. When we respond from the shadows we further segment our life and become further disconnected from our inner Self - our own guidance systems. Have we been bamboozled or is it time to lift your head and let your light shine - your true Hue-Man? GUEST: David Dalgleish was born and raised in Manchester, England; and currently lives in London, England. He has worked as a local government officer, policy development officer, and civil servant. Since 2002 he worked on a number of youth empowerment programs, which led to the development of a consultancy designed to make a positive contribution to the future, and provide solutions for problems of the past and present. He has facilitated programs with young people and adults from several countries, and has been interviewed for media productions, organized public events, participated in residential programs, presented at international conferences, and acted as an advisor to voluntary organizations and youth service providers. Much of his creative consultancy work has focused on tackling racism, media awareness, cultural capital, and social justice. David will shortly be publishing "WHERE DID RACISM COME FROM?" an educational guide to aid learning about the roots of race theories and racism.

Building Capital From The Inside Out: Cultural Capital or Internalized Oppression

As we circle in we must also circle out and in those movements we interact with the natural world. It is within that vibration that a culture is developed, defined, projected and subjected. As long as we live in the natural world we cannot simply stay on the mountaintop and see – we must also come into the valley and be. Tonight we begin to explore aspects of cultural capital and how it plays out in our experiences and community life. The deformations of racism have created a culture of fear. This social construct as well as all other fears of the ‘other’ cause many to feel miserable, marginalized and they begin to internalize the inferiority or perpetuate it and that causes walls of greater separation. Some of you may call it, internalized oppression while others allow themselves to be clothed in a culture of external oppression designed to take you further away from your own internal guidance system – your very soul. It is time to stop wallowing in the pain and hurt that comes from the fear and feelings of inadequacy. My oppression is not any less or greater than yours. Join us and add to the dialogue begin to know, forgive and let go. Guests: Shannette Slaughter manifesting learning how to connect to the Macro cycles of life so that we can begin to affect the changes that occur rather than being affected and feeling powerless. The Journey within soul, reminds us that our passion is our unrealized potential. Ty Gray-EL founder of "Stress Away...Write Away: Creative Expression Experience", and also known as the Ambassador of Poetry. The Power of the Spoken Word is evident each time this Inspirational Story Teller opens his mouth. Lydell Jackson, creator of "Living Legacy Journal", an award winning professional artist for more than 25 years gained national and international exposure for his work as an illustrator, multimedia designer and animator. He has trained in animation at Disney Institute, worked on creative projects with Warner Brothers, and many others.

Spiritual Capital: Challenging Our Own Segmentation

Challenging Our Own Segmentation Are you enjoying the expansion of your desires…”and you shall have dominion over all things…”yet do you have dominion of your physical and nonphysical self? You were sent to create…that all might have life. As we explore the essence of building capital on our journey through this plane of existence…how can we release ourselves from the fears we have created and focus more on our purpose and passion? We must begin to build from the inside out. Join us as we begin an eight part series on building capital starting at the spiritual core. We begin where we began. Join us and allow your soul to consciously comprehend the unique inner and outer aspects of your being and the alignment needed to fuel your passions. FEATURED GUEST: Shannette Slaughter is the author of a new book called Just Cause I: Moving from a mundane existence into Deliberate Wholeness. Learning how to connect to the Macro cycles of life so that we can begin to affect the changes that occur rather than being affected and feeling powerless. The Journey within soul, reminds us that our passion is our unrealized potential beckoning to be expressed. When we are organized and deliberate, we express our passion in a loving and righteous way. When we are unorganized and underdeveloped, our passion gets suppressed and we “act out” rather than “create.” Just Cause is the manual that moves each of us to understand our connection to humanity without ignoring our struggle and contribution as a people. “In spite of our potential we remain on the peripheral of all society. Our enslavement, colonialism and imperialism has blocked our view and made us short sited. We must move from the passenger seat of our lives into the driver’s seat. There is no better day than today-now. We have everything we need to do what ever we need to do. The work now is getting rid on those things that no longer serve us or humanity as a whole.”

    W.I.I.F.M.? - What's In It For Me

We can dedicate ourselves to defining and redefining the problem, focusing only on the negative, or commit ourselves to collective action to address the spiritual and societal ills that many of us share in common on a day-to-day basis. When making any journey it is clearly important to have an idea of your destination, where you have been and the terrain that you have traveled and that you must travel in the future. Are you looking for answers to these 21st century questions and receive concrete, humane solutions? How do we restore our values the sense of good will? How do we recapture our sense of community, responsibility and restore our village mentality? Why are we only temporarily incensed at different forms of injustice and how do we remove our apathy and complacency and become proactive with respect to our own wellbeing? If you feel that we are being led down paths of destruction, and how do we get off the paths that are wide to destruction? How do we identify the glory and the shame that has been misplaced with respect to how we feel and how we relate to one another? Is property more valuable than human life? How do we acknowledge the value of other things beyond the dollar bill and what it can buy? At the end of the day how do we feel good about ourselves? How do we find happiness or peace in the midst of all the turmoil and life? How can I get help form me? What’s in it for me? Join us as we provide insight, understanding and solutions as we map the village’s future progress. Validate your productive and constructive values base. Reenergize! The journey begins with the first step. We don't have all of the answers but you each have a portion...we hold these truths to be self evident. We look forward to your input...our present and future depends upon it.

Is It Apathy – Selfishness, Complacency or Ubiquitous Disparity? or...Is Freedom Just Another Word?

Our goal is not to tell you what to believe or what to do. We simply think that a better quality of knowing produces a better quality of me and you. We have had the honor and privilege over the past 22 shows of conveying and communicating from inside out. We began with the soul and have attempted to focus on family, environment, creativity, literacy, health, critical thinking, youth, culture, volunteerism, community sustainability, racism, capitalism, rap and others and come back to where we began. What are our next steps? How do we continue to support those who do care for equity, justice, and quality of life? How do we convey to those who sit on the couch and simply want to complain without seeing the impact on the whole? Our show this week addresses the question: why the apathy, disengagement, lacks of courage and excitement to bring change. If a person wants to become involved through charity, volunteering or activism, what are the steps? Is there a formula for change and how do you encourage others to become actively involved in their own survival. How does one become a better activist? One of our guests tonight will be the folk at TIA’s Way as we highlight their progress and a major upcoming event. Their choice was to get off of the couch and into the community educating as many as they can on the number of women who will die this year as a result of cervical cancer. Let us know if you would like to join us at the Cervical Cancer Walk at Ft. Dupont Park in Washington, DC. Join us as we hope to hear your thoughts and insights on the air. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYjBqJJD_wM
