Conventional hospital births often provide a stagnant experience for a mother. Although extraordinarily popular in most other countries, births either at home or at a birthing center using the services of a midwife and doula are gaining popularity here in the United States for a number of reasons. The cost for pre-natal care and birth is dramatically less expensive than care rendered by a OB and delivery at a hospital, and the outcomes for baby tend to be more favorable in a natural setting instead of one that promotes the use of medications.
