#15: Birthing with a Midwife with Jamin Sylvada

    in LGBT

Have you thought about birthing naturally at home or in a birth center? Have you considered a water birth? If so, a midwife is the birthing practioner you'll likely be using.  Midwives have been around for thousands of years (they were even mentioned in the Book of Genesis). While midwives attend a small minority of births in the U.S., in the countries with the best pregnancy outcomes, midwives are the primary care providers for pregnant and birthing moms.  In fact a 2013 study in the U.S. found the same thing (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/20/midwifery-benefits_n_3787058.html).

On tonight's show, midwife Jamin Sylvada of San Diego Midwife answers common questions, including:

What do midwives do?  What care do they provide?
When would I hire a midwife?
What are the benefits of birthing at home?  Birth center?
What are the benefits of water birth?
How does a midwife ensure she'll be available for my birth?
What about medical interventions (drugs, etc.)?
How safe is it to birth at home wiht a midwife?

Tune in to get your questions answered.
