The Role of a Birth Doula in Surrogacy

    in Health

A birth doula can play an essential role in assisting one's surrogate mother prior to and during a natural childbirth. Not only is she trained to offer specialized support during labor to provide guidance and help the surrrogate mother remain calm and focused during childbirth, she can also be instrumental in bridging communication gaps between the recipient parent and surrogate mother both prior to and during childbirth. Doula's are trained as experts in the childbirth process, and can provide the surrogate with specific techniques to ensure that the surrogate mother is as relaxed as possible during childbirth, and also foster the creation of a birth plan prior to childbirth which can be generated with input from the recipient parents as well. On this episode, our guest is S. Renea Capozzi, a birth doula who owns Lil' Seeds of Life Birth Wellness Center in southern California, who will discuss the doula's role in a surrogacy birth, as well as offer insights on natural childbirth.

    Elective C-Sections/Inductions and Surrogacy

    in Health

It's often a common practice in traditional obstetric care here in the United States for a woman to have a scheduled C-section or induction birth. In surrogacy, however, allowing your surrogate mother to add an elective C-section (one without medical need) to her surrogacy contract, and/or an induction can be a giant and costly mistake for a set of recipient parents.
Currently, online there is a website encouraging surrogate mothers to do just that:  add elective c-sections to their surrogacy contracts. In this episode, Dawn discusses the risks not only medically, but financially, this can pose to a set of recipient parents.

Legal Aspects of Surrogacy - Attorney Michelle Keeyes

    in Health

One of the most critical components in a surrogacy journey is the legal advice both recipient parents and surrogate mothers receive prior to signing contracts with each other. There are a number of reproductive attorneys who specialize in this niche area, and on today's show, we are pleased to have Michelle Keeyes, an attorney from the Reproductive Law Center in La Mesa, CA as our guest. Michelle will be discussing why it is absolutely esssential to have an attorney advise all parties involved, the process for obtaining a pre-birth order in states (liike California) which takes place while your surrogate mother is preganant and provides the legal framework required for placing the recipient parents' name on the baby's birth certificate. Please be sure to listen to this very important epsidoe explaining the legal aspects of surrogacy.

Breeders: A Subclass Of Women A Documentary Which Knows Nothing About Surrogacy

    in Health

A new documentary was just released  by the Center for Bioethics and Culture called "Breeders: A Subclass of Women?" In this season premiere of ABCS of Surrogacy, Dawn critiques this dramatic account detailing the journey of three independent surrogate mothers and someone who opted to co-parent a baby with someone else. Dawn explains very specifically why this documentary is an outstanding example demonstrating why independent surrogacy without any oversight is a recipe for failure. She emphasizes why recipient parents and surrogate mothers should rely upon the expertise of professionals such as lawyers and psychologists as well as surrogacy agencies prior to embarking on a surrogacy journey. In fact, in each of the surrogacy journeys exposed, each failed to utilize these experts in any capacity, resulting in the predictable catastrophe in one form or another with each recipient parent or surrogate mother.

Traditional Surrogacy - Why Its Not a Good Idea!

    in Health

On this episode of "The ABC's Of Surrogacy," Dawn Marmorstein will be discussing traditional surrogacy, which is a surrogacy arrangement where the surrogate mother plays the role of both surrogate mother and egg donor; the baby she carries is biologically related to the surrogate baby, in contrast to gestational surrogacy, where the surrogate mother carries an embryo created via IVF using the egg of a third-party egg donor and therefore has no biological connection to the surrgate baby.
Traditional surrogacy is currently quite controversial, and the courts in even the states with the most favorable rules for gestational surrogacy won't issue a pre-birth order naming the recipients as parents if the child was conceived via traditional surrogacy. Listen in as Dawn presents some  expert advice for those considering a traditional surrogacy journey.

Introduction to Surrogacy - How I Entered This Industry

    in Health

On this first  premiere episode, i will be  first discussing what surrogacy is, as well as how my career evolved into founding a California-based surrogacy agency.  In the last few years, surrogacy has gained enormous popuarity for a variety of reasons. One of my main objectives during this first episode is to generally describe what takes place in a surrogacy journey from both the perspective of the recipient parent as well as of the surrogate mother.
Surrogacy is complex with multiple components, and my goal is to help you understand the entire surrogacy process. While some of you may be seriously contemplating a surrogacy journey from the perspective of a recipient parent, others of you may be considering a role as a surrogate mother or even egg donor. These episodes will be designed to educate anyone with even a peripheral interest in surrogacy, as well as those who are ready to commence their journeys from either a recipient parent's or surrogate mother's perspective.
I will be welcoming questions from our listening audience during each of these episodes, and I look forward to our inaugral episode airing on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 PDT.
