The Crown of Life

James 1:12 and Revelation 2:10 indicate that there is a special crown for those Christians who are persecuted for righteousness' sake. This "crown of life" is sometimes called "the martyr's crown," for it goes to those who have been cruelly killed because of their testimony and service for the Master.

God, in His sovereignty, has chosen to allow the martyrdom or persecution of some Christians during this church age, when He expects people to call on Him by faith in the teaching of His Word rather than by miracles and signs (such as were practiced during the first century, before the Bible was completed). While it seems unfair to us when fellow believers are unjustly persecuted, we can be sure of this: All martyrs will be adequately compensated in the life to come.
