PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: "When Resurrected Christians Meet Their Lord (Part 5)" from Dr. Tim LaHaye

I’m sure you are aware of certain well-known Christians who have served the Lord faithfully for many years but then through a moral indiscretion or some other sin brought reproach to the cause of Christ. The judgment seat of Christ will reveal all truth, even unconfessed failure and sin. The works judged in 1 Corinthians 3:!2-15 evidently all looked alike until after the fire tested every man’s work. There would be no purpose in using fire to test straw or wood or stubble -- unless they looked the same as gold, silver, or jewels. It is the holy test of fire that will determine whether or not our works were good or bad. To the church, a person’s “Christian service” may look like good works, but the inner motives behind those works will be revealed by Christ at this judgment. So it’s possible a person may lose his or her reward on account of self-seeking motives or hypocrisy.

Some of the verses we looked at in the previous lesson show that a Christian can lose his crown, receive less than a full reward, and “suffer loss” even when expecting rewards. There are at least three things that could cause a loss of reward: unconfessed sin, good things done with an evil motive, and hidden counsels of the heart that are displeasing to God.
