Complications

• Chronic neurologic deficits, such as dysarthria, motor disorders, abnormal reflexes, and affective disorders, may occur in patients who survive an episode of acute encephalitis.
• An increased risk for spontaneous abortions has been noted during Venezuelan equine encephalitis epidemics.
