Commercial real estate in the medical sector is one of the few sectors in our country that shows great potential and resilience in this economy. Baby boomers are aging increasing the demand for medical care at the same time that medical costs are skyrocketing. All economic, demographic and cultural trends forecast that this market segment is set to accelerate as medical reform is phased in over the next decade. The goals of every healthcare reform plan are access, quality and affordability. Central to the overhaul of the system is the need for prevention and wellness intervention that places a stronger focus on primary care physicians and off campus treatment facilities. Technology, innovation and R&D will also play an important role in driving costs down and improving quality of care. This will further elevate the demand for medical related office space. To capitalize on these trends and help recoup some of the losses experienced by many of us over the past few years, I recommend exploring real estate opportunities in the commercial medical sector.
