This week I welcome to the show Bob Kelly of WordCrafters, Inc. Bob is a copywriter, ghostwriter, speech writer, book editor, author and speaker. He also owns what is surely one of the rarest and most extensive quotes collections in existence. His library includes more than 400 published volumes containing nearly 1.5 million quotes, plus thousands of other quotes collected from a wide variety of sources.

Bob says that if you’ve ever wondered exactly what constitutes a quotation, and who decides what qualifies for that designation, the late scientist and science fiction writer, Isaac Asimov, came about as close to answering those questions as anyone he's found. In his Foreword to Isaac Asimov’s Book of Science and Nature Quotations (co-edited by Jason A. Shulman and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, New York, in 1988), he wrote:

“There are five billion people on Earth, and I should guess that at any given moment one or two billion of us are speaking. And I should further guess that virtually nothing anyone says is memorable....There are times, however, when someone turns a phrase that seems so clever or so apt or so enlightening or so true, that the statement flies from person to person and gives pleasure at each passage. The statement becomes a ‘quotation.’ ”

We will cover topics ranging from writing, editing and publishing your book to how third-party quotations can be used effectively in your marketing message.
