Host Keith Broaders will make a presentation on the Missing Thirteenth Amendment that was first introduced in 1810. It was ratified in March of 1819 and was published along with the first 12 amendments in numberous states up until the Civil War.
The Amendment prohibited elected officials from serving simultaneously as elected lawyers and elected officials. Congressmen, Judges and all other officials were required to resign from the BAR while serving in any public capacity.
Receiving gifts (campaign contributions) or other emoluments would result in the public official being strippted of their citizenship and they would be banished from holding any office of public trust.
