Traditional Oglala Elders demand accountability

"Once again the traditional elders of the Pine Ridge reservation have been forced to seize another government building to demand accountability for the ongoing tribal council corruption. With technical support and security provided by the Strong Heart Warriors Society the traditional Elders have uncovered yet more proof that the tribal council along with higher ranking officials of the B.I.A. have misappropriated funds intended for food programs for the elderly as well as funding for youth programs. One source stated that the account should have a balance of $100,000. When the balance was checked on site today is was sitting at .86. The people have a right to know where this funding went and when, where and why it is being spent. Last year we went through this due to the elders food program being mismanaged while staff members sold drugs and alcohol on the premises. The elders where promised a new building for there food program and a new staff to manage it, That has not been honored. In the mean time the corruption has continued and so has the physical attacks on anyone who speaks out, Our source on the ground tells us that multiple law enforcement agencies have surrounded the area and are threatening to use paramilitary force to remove our Elders from the building. These elders are not armed and either are the people supporting them on the inside.   BY M.W.H."
