The Fourth Branch with Debbie Carroll: Guardian ad Litem as Divorce Weapon. Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 6-8 p.m. Pacific, 7-9 p.m. Mountain, 8-10 p.m. Central, and 9-11 p.m. Eastern.

Colorado Divorce Court empowers one spouse to motion for a guardian-ad-litem, thereby stripping the other spouse of having a voice in the divorce.  This is terrifying and dangerous!

Contested divorce is bad enough when the parties go in as equals. Imagine being the parent who loses the right to have a voice in custody and parenting litigation and being silenced in financial decisions . A GAL can decide legal matters such as whether or not to file a motion to recuse the judge or to request a continuance, etc.  A guardian-ad-litem can even speak for the parent in settlement negotiations. Adding this role to a divorce is tantamount to tying one parent’s hands and gagging their mouth.

How can the best interest of the child be to devastate one parent to feed the attorneys and court officers?  How many court players who are connected to each other does it take to constitute racketeering?

My guest is Susie Barbie, who is fighting to save her children from an assault by her ex and his court connections in this test case. This is not a gender issue; this is a violation of human and civil rights.
