Niggaz Turn Up for MLK Weekend Nationwide; Light Each Other Up for Black Power

One person was killed and two others were taken to the hospital after someone reportedly opened fire during an event celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in Hallandale Beach, Monday evening.

Police later took one subject into custody, who they believe is the gunman.

Police and fire rescue crews responded to the scene of the shooting, at a block party along the 700 block of Foster Road, near Foster Park, just east of Interstate 95, at around 6:30 p.m.

“We were here having a great time. Everybody enjoying themselves, everybody was dancing,” said area resident Greg Clark.

However, the good time came to an abrupt halt after, neighbors said, two people got into an argument.

One onlooker said the altercation spiraled into gun violence. “They said a guy pulled out a gun and shot him twice,” he said.

Thirty-two people have been shot across the city over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, leaving eight dead, according to Chicago Police.

About 1:10 a.m. Monday, a 36-year-old was standing outside in the 2200 block of West Chicago in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood when someone in a black SUV opened fire, striking him in the abdomen, face and left leg. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately provide information on the fatality.
