 Doug Alderson's articles and photographs have been featured in Wildlife Conservation, American Forests, Sea Kayaker, Sierra, Shaman's Drum, Mother Earth News and several others. He has won two national writing awards for his magazine features, and he was awarded first place in the 2008 Florida State Writing Competition in the previously published nonfiction article category. Doug's first book, Waters Less Traveled: Exploring Florida's Big Bend Coast (University Press of Florida), was the runner up for Best Travel Book of 2006 by the North American Travel Journalists Association. He is also the author of The Vision Keepers (Quest Books 2007), The Ghost Orchid Ghost and Other Tales from the Swamp (Pineapple Press 2007), Through Time and Wilderness: Exploring Old and New Trails of the American West (Earthways Press 2009), The Ghostly Ghost Tour of St. Augustine and Other Tales From Florida's Coast (Earthways Press 2009), and Seminole Freedom (Earthways Press 2009). New Dawn for the Kissimmee River: Orlando to Lake Okeechobee by Kayak (University Press of Florida 2009), won a first place Royal Palm Literary Award from the Florida Writer's Association in the unpublished travel book category. His newest book, Encounters with Florida's Endangered Wildlife--also published by the University Press of Florida--has been receiving positive reviews from various publications such as The Florida Times-Union, Florida Weekly and Sierra Magazine's The Green Life.
