Author of The New “N” Word: The White Middle Class and the first person of color to be elected to a statewide office in Oregon, Jim Hill served two terms as State Treasurer, beginning in 1993. Previously, he had served as an Assistant Attorney General at the Oregon Department of Justice, an Oregon State Representative, and an Oregon State Senator. Among his many noted accomplishments, Hill is known for co-sponsoring the establishment of a holiday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., passing the Anti-Apartheid Act, and introducing a bill to allow Oregon State Lottery funds to enhance Oregon’s economy.
